Generally speaking, the specific steps of designing panel furniture are as follows:

1 understand the basic knowledge 1.1 What is the “board” in “panel furniture”?

“Board” refers to man-made board. I personally feel that particleboard is common (as shown in Figure 1 below). Particleboard treated by facing (Figure 2 below) and edge sealing (Figure 3 below) can finally become the basic part of layout furniture, namely the so-called “board”

1.2 How to assemble parts (each “board”)?

Hardware required, including connectors, slideways, hinges, etc., as follows:

(1) connecting piece Connectors are used to connect plates, which are divided into three-in-one connectors (Figure 1) and two-in-one connectors (Figure 2).

(2) Slide and hinge It is easy to understand that they are used for drawers and cabinet doors respectively.

32mm is a distance, so what is the distance between? As mentioned in 1.2, the connection between boards needs to use connectors, and the installation of connectors needs one hole, and 32mm is the minimum unit distance between holes (that is, the distance between two holes on a board is an integral multiple of 32mm).

2 design calculation The following is a design example of small-sized panel furniture (a cabinet and a drawer). The specific steps can refer to the references listed at the end of the article, and the introduction of calculation points is comprehensive.

① determination of connection form and structure of panel furniture; Bottom plate, brace and side plate: three-in-one connector; Door panel and side panel: use cup-shaped hidden hinge, and the door panel is fully covered; Skirt board and side board: three-in-one connector; Back plate: inserted into the slots opened by the side plate, bottom plate and back brace; Drawer panel, side panel and back panel: three-in-one connector Drawer bottom plate: inserted into the slots opened by side plates, front plates and back plates; Drawer: roller slideway.

② cabinet design The position and size of the main holes of the side plate and the positional relationship with related parts are shown in the following figure, where: d is the cabinet depth; H is the cabinet height; T is the thickness of roof; H is the side plate height; B is the width of the side plate; F is the skirting board height; G is the hole spacing of the mounting holes of the lifting screws; M is the number of structural holes in the horizontal direction; ; N is the number of system holes in the vertical direction (note: M and N are integers).

C. Roof According to the requirements of cabinet width 450mm and cabinet depth 410mm, the length and width of the top plate are 450mm and 410mm respectively.

D. Bracing and bottom plate (1) length According to the cabinet width of 450mm, MINUS the thickness of two side plates of 16mm×2＝32mm, the length of bottom plate and brace is 418mm.

(2) Width The width of the bottom plate should be consistent with that of the side plate, i.e. 394mm；; In order to make the hole symmetrical, the width of the front and rear braces is designed to be 106mm；; (3) Others A groove with a width of 3mm and a depth of 8mm is opened on the bottom plate and the back brace for installing the back plate.

E. back plate The net height between the bottom plate and the back brace is 368mm, and the depth of the insertion groove is 7mm×2=14mm, so that the length of the back plate is 382 mm.

The net width between the two boards is 418mm, and the depth of the insertion slot is 7mm×2=14mm, so that the width of the back board is 432mm.

F door panel (the size of this part is determined after the size of drawer panel is determined) (1) width The form of the door is “full cover”, so the width of the door is determined based on the outermost edge of the side plate, that is, 450mm.

(2) Height The determination of the height dimension of the door is based on the lowest edge of the bottom plate. In addition, the design door height is calculated as 400-166-2-1 = 231mm because a gap of 1 mm should be left between the door and the drawer panel.

③ drawer design According to the calculation basis, the thickness of drawer slide is 12.5mm and the length is 23mm.

A. Panel The length is consistent with the cabinet width, which is 450mm. Considering the upper margin, ensure that the lower end is located above the 32mm system of the side plate, and the height is designed to be 166mm.

B. Left and right side plates The length is designed to be 360mm, and the width of the side plate is designed to be 132mm because there is a certain distance between the upper and lower sides of the side plate (18mm from the upper end and 16mm from the lower end).

C. Backplane The formula for calculating the length of the back plate is as follows: l= distance between side plates -2× (thickness of slideway+thickness of drawer side plate) That is, l=418-2×(16+12.5)=361 Therefore, the length of the drawer back plate is determined to be 361mm, while the width is 132mm consistent with that of the drawer side plate.

D. Bottom plate The length is 344mm between the drawer panel and the back panel plus 7mm×2=14mm, i.e. 344+14 = 358mm; The width is 361mm between the left and right side plates of the drawer and 7mm×2=14mm, i.e. 361+14=375mm.

After the calculation, it is necessary to draw a drawing according to the calculated value, and then it can be made according to the drawing. In fact, the production of panel furniture only needs three equipments, namely electronic cutting saw, edge banding machine and drill row (now replaced by a more comprehensive “machining center”).
